This is from Rob Brezsny's monthly emailed horoscope article. (He always offers tidbits and quotes and such):
THE BALANCE BETWEEN CYNICISM AND OPTIMISM
"I've found a nice balance," writes EarthMover, one of my readers, "between living like someone who has overdosed on delusional optimism and someone who thinks everything and everyone sucks. I can see things as they really are instead of through either rose-colored glasses or crap- colored glasses.
"That means I can cultivate true objectivity, not the fake cynical kind. I free myself from negative emotional biases that used to cloud my ability to see the partially hidden beauty all around me.
"At the same time, I'm not addicted to the idea that I should be eternally happy and blithe and sweet. When the dark moods descend on me, I trust them. I know they are openings into equally sacred perceptions and insights."

Mantra for the Defense Against Archontic Interference
End the drama. Return to ease. I broker no interference. No weapon, thought, or action formed against me shall prosper. My brothers stand around me and my sisters are within me. Wisdom, let me attend.

“Where I live in Plum Village, every time you meet someone on your way somewhere, you join your palms and bow to him or to her with respect, because you know that there is a Buddha inside that person. Even if that person isn’t looking or acting like a Buddha, the capacity for love and compassion is in him or her. If you know how to bow with respect and freshness, you can help the Buddha in him or her to come out. To join your palms and bow like this isn’t mere ritual. It’s a practice of awakening.” ― Thich Nhat Hanh, The Art of Communicating

I have a daily calendar of Yoga Sutra quotes. Some are difficult to understand but this one, for today, is one of the easy ones...
"Whatever the motivation, to run toward joy or run away from suffering, it makes no difference in the outcome. The only important thing is to begin to run! There is no winning for those who don't play the game."

Katya, I always loved George Carlin. There was a man who was awake.
